A Day at the Festival for Monmouthshire Businesses

In 2023 Monmouthshire Food Partnership teamed up with Abergavenny Food Festival to give four local businesses to get a taste of trading at the famous event. The Partnership paid for a marquee in the New and Small Producers Market in the priory courtyard, and offered the space to small local businesses who would not otherwise have been able to attend.

On the Saturday the stall was taken over by Wigmore’s Traditional Baker with a range of sumptuous breads and cakes, and The Fungi Folks with a beautiful display of edible and medicinal mushrooms. On Sunday, it was the turn of artisan distillery Monmouth Gin and handmade foraged jams and chutneys from White Oak.

Sadly, the weather wasn’t all we might have hoped for. But, we were in a great position right by the entrance from the main car park, so people didn’t have to walk far to find us. The businesses really did us proud, with eye-catching displays on both days, and there were plenty of people about despite the rain.

This was a trial initiative, but is definitely one we would like to repeat in 2025. Although not everyone loves the Food Festival, it is a once-in-the-year opportunity to get your products out there in front of a huge audience and Monmouthshire Food Partnership is proud to have worked with the Festival team to widen that opportunity to another group of local producers.
