Partnering Up for Food On Our Doorsteps

Monmouthshire Food Partnership, Monmouthshire County Council, and the charity Family Action have partnered with each other to open two FOOD Clubs in Monmouthshire to help reduce food waste and provide an alternative source of food for families feeling the pinch.

Family Action runs Food On Our Doorstep (FOOD) Clubs to provide good-quality food at a low cost. It costs just £1 a year for a family to become a member of a FOOD Club. Once you’ve joined, you can purchase a bag of tasty food items every week worth approx. £10–£15 for just £3.50! To become a member you must live or work within approximately 15 minutes of a club.

Chepstow FOOD Club is held at Rainbow Café on 38 Moor Street (the same place as the Community Fridge), on Mondays 10 a.m. – 12 noon

Wyesham FOOD Club is at Wyesham Christian Fellowship, Chapel Close, on Fridays 10 a.m. – 12 noon.

The two clubs opened in the summer of 2023 and have already helped 80 families keep themselves well fed through the summer holidays while saving good food from going to waste. The food changes every week, so you can be sure of an interesting and seasonal selection each time you go. There will be familiar favourites like apples, carrots, and tinned goods, and usually something special like fresh fish or steak. And why not take the opportunity to try something new at reduced cost? There will nearly always something a little bit different if you’re feeling adventurous, and the friendly staff and volunteers can help with recipe suggestions and cooking tips.
